Lycaeides melissa -  Gynandromorph 

 

This is a series of Lycaeides melissa, a Lycaenid that occurs in the Western United States. 
A huge population explosion of this species occurred in Western Colorado in August 1989. This series, collected during that period, shows from top to bottom:

 1/.  A typical male 

2/.  A typical female 

3/.  A female with male genetic tendency

4/.  A bilateral gyandromorph.
